Why Leonardo DiCaprio gets on my nerves

One of my most embarrassing moments as a showbiz journalist was when Leonardo DiCaprio turned down a selfie with me at the BAFTAs.

It was February 14, 2016 and Leo had won the best actor award for his performance in The Revenant, and all I wanted to do was say that I’d spent Valentine’s Day with the man of my dreams.

But if the opportunity came up again, I’m not sure I’d bother to pull out my phone. That’s because Leo makes me feel sick for the first time in my life.

For those unfamiliar with the phrase, he’s just a bit off-putting these days, not for his quality as an actor – he’s still a box-office hit in that regard – but for his obsession with dating young girls in their 20s when he’s about to hit 50.

After watching Leo play Jack Dawson in Titanic he obviously became my very first Hollywood crush and those feelings only developed when he starred in Catch Me If You Can, The Great Gatsby and The Wolf of Wall Street. that I’ve seen countless times.

He was just SO handsome and the characters he played only added to his charisma.

Hugh Hefner has been known over the years for his Playboy manner with many young girlfriends (pictured at Playboy’s 60th Anniversary special event).

But these days Leo doesn’t look that good in paparazzi photos.

He often appears disheveled, his hair unkempt behind a baseball cap, he’s not in the best of shape, and overall he’s sad… and lost.

His latest squeeze, Victoria Lamas, 23, joins a long list of models who have fallen for his charm and most likely his power and bank balance.

She ticks all of his boxes – tall, slim, an Instagram full of bikini snaps, money, and most likely comfortable in the knowledge that she won’t be walking down the aisle in this relationship.

In fact, Leo clearly has no desire to get married – he may not even want children – which is totally understandable and he has every right not to go down that route if it’s not for him.

But, aside from that, is dating women less than half your age really the way to live?

Surely since none of them worked, is it about time Leo at least tried dating someone around his own age?

They would have more in common, for starters, and he might also win back former admirers like me who find him a little scruffy due to the current company he keeps.

There are a lot of hot 30-50 year olds in Hollywood, aren’t there?

Certainly he would have no problem finding someone in that age range to potentially settle down with.

He just has to take inspiration from some of his Hollywood peers.

George Clooney settled with his wife Amal, 17 years his junior, when he was 53, and Ben Affleck, 50, just married his on/off lover Jennifer Lopez, 53, last July.

Matt Damon, 52, has been with his wife Luciana, 46, for 17 years, while Ryan Reynolds, 46, and Blake Lively have been married for over 10 years and are currently expecting their fourth child.

Instead of looking to the above as role models when it comes to relationships, Leo is slowly morphing into the new Hugh Hefner.

Just look at his list of girlfriends.

Leo split from model girlfriend Camila Morrone, who just turned 25, in August after a seven-year relationship.

He then quickly set his sights on supermodel Gigi Hadid, 27, but their romance proved short-lived and he quickly switched to current love interest Victoria, who joined him on holiday to St Barts this week.

Gisele Bundchen dated Leo for five years until she was 25 in 2005, and Bar Refaeli dated the actor for just as long until they split in 2009, when she was also 25.

History continued to repeat itself as the Hollywood star dated 22-year-old model Erin Heatherton and actress Toni Garrn for a year before ending at 21.

Kelly Rohrbach dated Leo in 2016 before it ended at 25, and model Nina Agdal was also dumped before she was 25.

Leo’s track record is comparable to reality star Scott Disick, 39, who, after splitting from Kourtney Kardashian, compiled a list of younger women including Sofia Richie, 15 years his junior, and Amelia Hamlin, who is 21.

But Leo, who has won Oscars, Golden Globe Awards and BAFTAs and is undoubtedly one of the best actors of our time, is better than that and his reputation as a womanizer is beginning to eclipse his real talent and success.

As a 32-year-old woman and a huge fan of his work, I would advise Leo to move away from 20’s dating and unfulfilling relationships.

If he makes those lifestyle changes, maybe he’ll get back into my good books, and maybe I’ll pose with him if I get the chance…that’s if he doesn’t think I’m too old.
