Will Dead Space 2 be remade?

Dead Space Remake is upon us, beginning an exciting year for survival horror fans, but many are wondering if this is just a one-off action or if a Dead Space 2 remake is also in the works.

Dead Space is a popular survival horror video game franchise developed by Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey. The franchise started in 2008 with the release of the original Dead Space for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. The series follows protagonist Isaac Clarke after a near-extinction event on Earth that prompts humanity to venture into outer space to harvest resources. On Clarke’s first journey, he investigates a distress call from the USG Ishimura and ends up fighting for his life against the Necromorph monsters.

The original is set to get a remake for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC on January 27th. While die-hard fans of the franchise are excited for a fresh remake that follows in Capcom’s successful footsteps with the Resident Evil remakes, they’re excited to see if the rest of the franchise will be remade later as well.

As of this writing, there is no confirmation that Dead Space 2 or Dead Space 3 will be remade. However, most would assume that if Dead Space Remake arrives and sells well, then nothing would stop EA from greenlighting a full franchise remake.

Fans should also hope that the original gets a full remake. It’s not just an updated remaster for current-gen consoles. There is also a new generation of gamers who may not have played the original trilogy when it was first released. This could be the catalyst to ignite a new wave of Dead Space fans. If the remake also includes new story elements, developers might be more interested in continuing these plot devices with a DS2 remake.

A timeline is hard to gauge given how long it’s taken to get a Dead Space remake, and using Capcom’s Resident Evil remake timeline doesn’t make sense. However, fans would hope that EA acts as quickly as Capcom did with Resident Evil. There was a five-year hiatus between the original Dead Space and Dead Space 2.

Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 3 Remake were released a little over a year apart, and Resident Evil 4 Remake is scheduled for release on March 24, 2023.
