Motive Studio’s remake of the hit survival horror Dead Space is out later this month and players can’t wait to get their hands on it. The game launches on January 27th on Steam, but will it also be coming to last-gen platforms like the PS4?
The original Dead Space was released in 2008 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. The game follows Isaac Clarke, an engineer assigned to investigate the disappearance of the USG Ishimura starship, as well as his girlfriend Nicole, an Ishimura crew member. Once on board, Clarke is separated from his team and forced to contend with nightmarish mutant horrors and other dangers, defending himself with improvised weapons such as the legendary plasma cutter, capable of severing the limbs of mutants he encounters.
The original Dead Space received critical acclaim and spawned two sequels that also received critical acclaim from critics and gamers alike, which perhaps explains why anticipation for the remake has reached such a high in recent months. Players were recently treated to another pleasant surprise: pre-ordering Dead Space remake for PC will give them access to an additional free game.
Unfortunately, PS4 is not among the platforms that will support Dead Space remake. According to EA’s website, the new game will feature next-gen graphics and other updated technical elements that the PS4 may not be able to handle. Additionally, the game’s pre-order page only lists current-gen consoles and PC as options for the game.
While PS4 players cannot access the game, they can play The Callisto Protocol, another sci-fi horror game directed by Dead Space creator Glen Schofield.
Released in early December, Callisto Protocol drew some comparisons to Dead Space, and while the games aren’t exactly the same, it could be a viable option for gamers on PS4 to get their survival horror fix.
