Will Octopath Traveler 2 release on Xbox?

Octopath Traveler 2 will be released on February 24, 2023. The game is a sequel to the 2018 critically acclaimed Octopath Traveler, developed and published by Square-Enix, known for the RPG series Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts. But is it coming to Xbox?

The core concept of the Octopath Traveler series is to accompany eight characters on their journeys through a fantastical world. While each character is separate, their stories will connect as they pursue their ultimate goal. Each character has a special action associated with their profession: for example, Throné Agnuis, a thief, can steal items from NPCs, while Partitio Yellowil, a trader, can buy them peacefully.

The games in the series are rendered in a unique “HD 2D” style that juxtaposes old-school pixel graphics with high-resolution backgrounds, creating a diorama-like effect. This style was a key selling point in the original game and has been improved in the sequel, according to the game’s website.

Unfortunately, players on Xbox will not be able to play Octopath Traveler 2 right away when it releases next month. According to the game’s website, pre-orders are only available for Nintendo Switch, PC, and PlayStation platforms.

This marks a reversal for the series as the first game released on Xbox but not PlayStation. While this news may come as a relief to PlayStation players who wanted to play the first game but didn’t get a chance, it can also come as a disappointment to Xbox fans. Fortunately, with new characters, the sequel tells a separate story from the original, allowing the original narrative to remain a complete experience.
