Will Pokemon GO shut down in 2023?

With some worrying changes to Remote Raid Passes, players have started speculating as to whether or not Pokémon GO will come to an end.

With the price increases for the Remote Raid Passes, many players feel it is a betrayal of confidence to have this change rushed at them out of nowhere, and thus feel uncertain about the game’s position in the near future.

That said, below is some of the key information on why we don’t think the game will be discontinued this year.

Pokémon GO will most likely not shut down this year. Despite the changes to Remote Raid Passes, there’s enough evidence that the game won’t disappear from our phone screens this year.

The biggest reason to believe the game won’t be shutting down is the wording of yesterday’s blog post from the Pokémon GO team, which states: “We believe this is a necessary step toward our goal of delivering the unique experience of to preserve and improve playing Pokémon GO, a game we hope you will continue to enjoy in the future.”

Just the wording in that quote makes it seem obvious that the game will go on in good health for the rest of the year.

The other evidence, although much less concrete, is that the connection between Pokémon GO and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet was a big moment at the end of last month, it is clear that they will add Paldean Pokémon to the game and they will take time to do that, which means the game will definitely be fine for the foreseeable future.
