Woman, 19, speaks after being beaten by a mob of youths in South Norwood, Croydon, London

A 19-year-old woman said she was too “scared to leave the house at night” after being beaten by a mob of youths who yelled “get her phone”.

Chloe Miller had been on her way to her local corner shop with her mother and sister when she was attacked on a street in South Norwood, London, leaving her with a concussion and severe bruises all over her body.

New footage shows thugs shamelessly ransacking a nearby newsagent before attacking the young woman, leaving her helpless in the street.

Miss Miller said: “There were a lot of people out there already, we saw them vandalizing shops and heard the police sirens.

“I was at my house to chill but we live right near the store so my mum, sister and I went over to check on the store owner and I literally just went to get a bottle of Cherry Coke and buy some sour watermelons.

“On the way back, however, someone hit me with a crutch, so I turned around and thought, ‘Why are you hitting random people with a crutch, that’s not right?’ And suddenly I was just being attacked for no reason. They took my phone and everything.

The young woman told MyLondon that “about 20 people” piled on her and knocked her over before “kicking and stomping on her”.

Miss Miller said she was now too “scared to leave the house at night” after the incident.

She added, “I remember someone yelling, ‘Get her phone, get her vape’ and my vape was between my top in my bra so a guy reached down to take that.

“I ended up in the hospital with really bad bruised ribs, a concussion and multiple bruises all over my body, a black eye.

‘I was so scared. At the end of the day I was trampled, punched and kicked and my phone was stolen and that had great sentimental value to me and memories on it.

Video footage released on social media showed Miss Miller being beaten and kicked to the ground by the gang.

She is seen trying to cover her head, unable to defend herself as she was attacked from all sides.

Police officers arrived at the scene and cleared crowds of people on the street.

Miss Miller added: “Everyone was distracted when the police came, they called an ambulance for me and they said they were doing a full investigation.

“But because many of them were all wearing balaclavas and masks, we couldn’t tell exactly who they were.”

New footage shared on social media last night shows a group of youths breaking into and stealing a newsagent near where Miss Miller was attacked.

The youths are seen pushing past stalls filled with candy and lottery tickets before filling their hands with frozen goods and alcohol.

A young woman dressed in a blue long-sleeved top runs to the back of the store and watches as the group proceed to the store.

A shopkeeper later said the thugs smashed the shop doors and windows to get in.

One of the employees at the Yogi newsagent on Tennison Road, a short walk from the scene of the brawl, said they saw him just before the attack.

The store worker, who asked not to be named, told MyLondon: “About 10 or 15 of them came in and stole sweets, stole alcohol and tried to get in the back. There were hundreds outside.

“We tried to force them out and lower the shutters and they started breaking things, smashing doors and windows, they’re broken now so it’s a big damage and we don’t know when it will be fixed.

“It took about 15 or 20 minutes for the police to arrive and run away.”

“I can’t go out now, I had to call my doctor and have my meds changed again, it’s really affected me.

“I definitely couldn’t go out at this time of night now, even on my own street.”
