Woolworths employees, shoppers and security guards scramble to hold down an unruly customer who hurls a tirade of insults at them while shocked bystanders look on.

An altercation with an employee appeared to have sparked the incident at Woolworths in the Hibiscus shopping center in the Darwin suburb of Leanyer on Saturday afternoon.

Footage of the confrontation released by the Mango Inquirer shows the woman lunging at employees before being restrained by a fellow shopper.

She was then escorted out of the store by security.

Footage, filmed of a shopper returning his shopping cart to the store, shows the woman being restrained by a store attendant while she verbally abused another worker.

‘Don’t attack my staff!’ you can hear the camp manager say.

The woman manages to break free of the supervisor’s grip and lunges at the worker before a male shopper at a nearby checkout steps in and hugs her tightly.

“Get off me, Gronk,” the woman can be heard yelling at the man.

Security forces quickly arrive at the scene and escort the seemingly recurring offender out of the store.

“You do that every time,” the sales clerk can be heard yelling at the woman as she leaves.

Woolworths confirmed police have been contacted about the incident and plans to ban the woman from the store.

“There is no place in our community for this type of abusive behaviour,” a spokesman told Daily Mail Australia.

“Our team members do their best to help customers and deserve to be treated with respect at work.”

‘Woolworths provides ongoing support and advice to all employees.’

Many viewers who saw the viral video of the upset customer came to the defense of the staff and customer who held them back.

“The guy who gives the bear hug is the real MVP,” commented one user.

,Damn it!!! Don’t get mad at Woolies,” wrote another.

However, others questioned the involvement of security in the incident.

“The security guard needs to be detached or properly trained. The staff and the public don’t have to worry about it,” one commented
