Zara and Mike Tindall attend the New Year’s Meeting at Cheltenham Racecourse

Mia and Lena Tindall couldn’t contain their excitement as they cheered on the horses at Cheltenham Racecourse today.

The happy sisters joined their parents Zara, 41, and Mike, 44, at the Gloucestershire venue to race on New Year’s Day.

Mia, eight, dressed in a gray coat with brown boots, held tight to a piece of paper as she yelled at pictures from the outing towards the racetrack, while her sister Lena, four, looked just as vivacious.

Zara, on the other hand, daughter of Princess Anne, was the picture of elegance in a navy blue winter coat, cinched at the waist with a chic belt, which she paired with a burgundy hat and handbag.

The queen donned some chunky black heeled boots and sported a minimal makeup look as she styled her blonde tresses in a sleek style.

Elsewhere, Mike looked dapper in a gray single-breasted jacket worn over a shirt and tie.

The ex-rugby player opted for a sophisticated look with some camel chinos and completed the ensemble with a chic flat cap.

The couple’s daughters also joined in, with Lena appearing as cute as ever in a red button-up and with her blonde hair in a cute headband.

The girls’ younger brother Lucas, who was born in March 2021, appeared to be staying at home, perhaps a little too young to witness the celebrations.

New Year’s Day is revered in Cheltenham as a time of fun for all the family, with not just racing but fun activities such as bouncy castles, ‘unicorns’, face painting and walking pet balloons.

It comes after Mike Tindall took to Instagram to urge his followers to take part in a six-week charity challenge.

The former England rugby player, who is married to Zara Tindall, the Queen’s granddaughter, announced this week that he has signed himself up for the initiative known as Doddie Aid.

It is run by the Doddie Foundation, the was founded by Scottish rugby player Doddie Weir with his trustees. The goal is to raise money to fund research into motor neuron disease (MND).

Doddie Weir, a friend of Mike’s, died in November at the age of 52. He was diagnosed with the disease in 2016.

In his Instagram video, Mike said, “Doddie Aid is back… I just signed up and re-downloaded the Doddie Aid app.

“It’s basically a six-week challenge. Earn as many miles as you can, sign up as a family, encourage families to get out and earn their miles, and raise money for the great man who apparently sadly passed away a few weeks ago.

“It’s a massive year for him… it’s a year to honor him as much as possible.”

He added that he signed up for Team Barbarians and urged others to do the same.

As well as the Miles Challenge, there’s the Doddie Dunk on January 1st, where people take an outdoor dip.

Mike said: “I hope you all can join to raise a huge amount of money for such a great cause.

‘Let’s do it together. Let’s make it positive. It is great. Exercise is good for both the brain and the body. Enjoy and get started properly.”

The death of Doddie Weir in November, while Mike Tindall was filming I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here on Australian jungle reality show, sparked a spate of tributes from a number of people.

Rob Burrow, the former England rugby league star who also has MND, took to Twitter to celebrate Weir as his ‘MND’ hero before targeting the UK government for a £50million pledge to invest in research funding had not complied.

“So sad to hear the news of the passing of my mnd hero Doddie Weir,” he wrote. “I’m sorry to say how many more warriors will die before this stupid government gives the 50 million they promised. I am absolutely disappointed to see my friendly giraffe die. You’re the reason for being so positive, RIP’

Burrow’s father Geoff also expressed his sadness at the news on Twitter. “SO SAD to hear of rugby legend Doddle Weir,” he wrote, “a true champion and such a lovely, kind man RIP Doddle.”
